Why we love peanut butter
Aug 31, 2022
Spread it on your toast. Add it to your shakes. Lather it over a banana or apple. Or just straight from the tub.
However you eat peanut butter, its wonderful buttery goodness is versatile, tasty, and…healthy.
Peanut butter is healthy!
Peanut butter gets a bad rep. Yes, the label might tell you that it has a high calorie content - which it does. But just like everything, it should be part of a healthy balanced diet.
Health benefits of peanut butter
It’s an incredible source of protein, and healthy fats, containing a wide variety of body-loving vitamins.
Roasted peanuts are ground into a thick paste, and mixed with peanut oil and sometimes a small amount of salt. So essentially, if you're buying pure peanut butter, it's the same nutritional content as a bag of peanuts.
Here’s some ways that this wonderful buttery goodness can do wonderful things for our bodies.
Peanut butter is incredibly rich in healthy fats, and contains an abundance of protein.
It’s not necessarily unhealthily calorific, but rather, ‘nutrient dense.’ Some people find that the protein kick from peanut butter is what they need to complete a full on cardio workout, but peanut butter is also a fantastic post-workout snack, too. Or, both, if you’re a true peanut butter nutter.
Healthy Heart
Peanut butter is incredibly rich in...
- Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs)
- Niacin
- Magnesium
- Monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs)
These are all things that contribute to the functioning of a healthy heart. The monounsaturated fats have been shown to help decrease the levels of 'bad' cholesterol in the body, which means it can help unclog arteries which supply the heart with healthy blood.
Protein Fix
Peanut butter is absolutely packed to the brim with protein. It's a protein mean machine. It's an excellent source of protein, which can help repair those sore muscles in no time.
Peanut butter is extremely protein heavy. It’s a great post-workout snack because it helps to repair the tears within the muscles at a quicker rate, so that you’re ready to ‘go again’ in a shorter span of time.
This is especially beneficial for adding to your post-workout shakes - and can be the secret ingredient to making your gross-tasting protein shake taste like peanut butter milkshake goodness.
The question is, though…pre workout or Post workout?
Here at MOBU, however, we may or may not have a peanut butter addict within our midst *cough.
So over the course of a few weeks, I put away:
- 4 x 340g jars
- 3 x 1kg tubs
Which totals to...4360g crunchy peanut butter.
Anyway, daft challenges aside: here's the ultimate question...
Smooth or crunchy?
